Meditation is a practice common to many religious, philosophical and secular communities. It allows the mind to feel calm so you can settle into the present moment. But what is meditation? Essentially, it’s a mindful practise wherein you allow your thoughts to settle for a moment and view them objectively while remaining in full awareness. This is true daily mental hygiene!

There’s a common misconception that meditation is the practice of trying to not think of anything, but that is not the case. It’s about learning to observe our thoughts and take a moment of intimacy with ourselves so that we can be aware and present in this precise moment.
It can occur at any time of the day, sitting or standing, resting or walking by stopping for a few minutes to reconnect with the present moment. Through meditation, we begin to become aware of the functioning of our body and mind, so we can gradually move towards serenity.
We often consider meditation a sign of worldly disconnected existence, yet it is almost the exact opposite. It is a sacred time when a person can genuinely reconnect with themselves. All the benefits of this process are gradually and naturally reflected in the body, mind and soul.
As the spiritual master Thich Nhat Hanh said, “Meditation is not to escape from society, but to come back to ourselves and see what is going on. Once there is seeing, there must be acting. With mindfulness, we know what to do and what not to do to help.“

Scientific studies have shown the existence of different wave frequencies in the brain associated with different types of consciousness and activity. According to one study, Meditation promotes the development of alpha waves that reflect a peaceful state of the brain.
